
Committed and compassionate -- Ric puts his beliefs into action. Born and raised in Ottawa, he works hard for his community.
As a member of the City of Ottawa's Environmental Advisory Committee, Ric is very committed to protecting our environment. His environmental activism will safeguard our quality of life now and for generations to come.
Working in cooperation with other environmental activitists, Ric advocated a ban on the cosmetic use of pesticides in Ottawa. He advocates using sustainable energy sources, such as environmentally cleaner fuels like ethanol and bio-diesel instead of pollution-causing fossil fuels.
As treasurer of the Ottawa Health Coalition, Ric fights to stave off threats to Canada's universal medicare system.
He is also treasurer of the Ottawa CUPE District Council and the Rideau Canal Celtic Cross Committee, which erected a monument in the Riding commemorating the workers who died building the Rideau Canal. Ric also served as treasurer on the board of the Ottawa Carleton Credit Union.
On most Saturday afternoons, you can find Ric volunteering as a food handler in the soup kitchen on Murray Street. But his commitment to Ottawa's homeless doesn't stop there. He is also a Director on the Board of the Shepherds of Good Hope.
As a workers' advocate Ric is an organizer with the National Day of Mourning Ceremonies for workers who have died on the job. He also chairs the Ottawa Labour Day Parade organizing committee. Ric has represented municipal workers across Ontario as Chair of the Ontario Municipal Employees Coordinating Committee and was a member of the CUPE Ontario's Executive Board.
Ric is currently a bilingual analyst with the Canadian Union of Public Employees and formerly an administrator for the Region of Ottawa-Carleton for 31 years. He attended LaSalle High School and studied Business Administration at the University of Ottawa. Before becoming an activist, Ric was a working musician, recording artist, and bandleader in the Ottawa area for many years. Ric and his wife Jane are the proud parents of three children: Meghan, Martin and Morgan. This is Ric's fourth campaign as an NDP candidate.
